(CNN Spanish) - A Sentence Court of the Supreme Court of Justice of Honduras issued on Monday a penalty of between 30 and 50 years in jail to seven of the nine involved in the murder of environmentalist Berta Cáceres, according to the spokeswoman for the judiciary Lucia Villars.

In the resolution, the court establishes that four of those sentenced must remain in jail for 50 years, since they were found guilty for the crimes of murder to the detriment of the environmentalist Berta Cáceres and attempted murder against a protected witness that accompanied Cáceres on the day of the crime.

Two defendants were sentenced to 30 years in jail, one for finding him guilty as co-author of the crime of consummate murder and the other for the crime of perpetrator by omission in a murder case.

In addition, another defendant will be 30 years in prison for the crime of murder in his attempt.

Berta Cáceres was killed on March 2, 2016 of several bullet impacts inside her home, located in the city of La Esperanza, Intibucá, west of Tegucigalpa.

In this case, nine people were prosecuted, including three former military officers, who pleaded not guilty. During the trial, one of the accused was released due to lack of evidence.

As one of the intellectual actors of the murder of the environmentalist, according to the sentence, Sergio Rodríguez, environmental manager of the company Desarrollos Energéticos (DESA), a company that Cáceres opposed for trying to install a hydroelectric plant in the Gualcarque river is mentioned in his Lenca community.

Rodriguez's legal representative, Jair López, said he will appeal his defendant's sentence, because he says his client is innocent and reiterated the allegation throughout the trial process that the DESA executive had no relationship to imply.

The ninth accused in this case is David Castillo Mejía, president of DESA, who was accused by the State Prosecutor of the murder of the environmentalist who has also pleaded not guilty.

Because he was captured on March 2, 2018, his process is pending oral and public trial, authorities of the judiciary said. The company Desarrollos Energéticos, through communiqués, has argued the innocence of its detained executives and has detached itself from the murder of Cáceres.
