In the center of the country there is more life than in the periphery, and in Jewish communities more than in non-Jewish communities. That's how the Central Bureau of Statistics released today. Of the 16 major cities (over 100,000 people) at the highest life expectancy level (84.6) and Bat Yam - the lowest (81.0), a gap of 3.6 years. Of the 18 medium cities (50,000 to 99,999), in Modi'in Illit the highest life expectancy (87.6) and Umm al-Fahm - the lowest (79.0), a gap of 8.6 years.

Three of the four cities with the lowest life expectancy are Arab or mixed cities: Umm al-Fahm, Lod and Ramla. The higher the socio-economic index of the locality; Total mortality in the community, mortality from heart disease, infant mortality, diabetes mellitus and lower hospitalization rate. This association is stronger in Jewish and mixed localities, while in Arab localities in some of the indices there was no connection. Gaps were found between the Arab localities and the Jewish localities in a variety of indices. In Arab communities, high rates of heart disease mortality, general hospitalization rates, diabetes rates and overweight or obesity rates.

Life expectancy in Israel is 82.6 years, 84.5 years for women and 80.6 years for men - a gap of 3.9 years. District with the highest life expectancy in Judea and Samaria - 84.1 years, compared with the lowest life expectancy (Tel Aviv - 81.1), the gap is 2.9 years. It was found that in the Judea and Samaria area the highest life expectancy, while in the Beer Sheva sub-district - the lowest.

Life expectancy among the highest men was at the highest level of life expectancy (82.6) and at Bat Yam - the lowest (78.4). Life expectancy among the highest women was again at Ramat Gan (86.4) and Bat Yam (83.3). The women in Bat Yam live more than the men in Ramat Gan.

Of the 18 medium cities, Modi'in Illit has the highest life expectancy (87.6) followed by Hod Hasharon (86.0). Baum al-Fahm has the lowest life expectancy (79.0) and for Eilat with one life year (80.0). Ahead of them are two mixed cities (where at least 20% of the population are Arabs): Lod (80.3) and Ramla (80.9). These differences reflect population composition, socio-economic differences and accessibility and availability of health services.

Between 2009-2005 and 2017-2013, life expectancy in Israel increased by 1.8 years. In those years, there was an increase in life expectancy in cities with more than 50,000 residents, but not equally. In Givatayim cities, Ramla, Hadera and Nazareth the improvement in life expectancy was relatively high. In Holon, Nahariya and Bat Yam the improvement was relatively low. In Beit Shemesh and Raanana cities there has been a slight decrease in life expectancy.

On a national average, the life expectancy of Jews and others was 83.1 years, 84.9 for men and 81.1 for women. For Arabs, life expectancy was 79.5: 81.4 for women and 77.4 for men. In addition, the counties of districts and subdivisions differ according to population groups as opposed to the total population. Among Jews and others in the Jerusalem District, the highest life expectancy (84.4) and the lowest in the Southern District (78.7). Among the Arabs in the Northern District, the highest life expectancy (80.4) and the Central District - the lowest (78.4). Compared to sub-districts, 3 among Jews and others the highest life expectancy is in Jerusalem (84.4) followed by Petah Tikva (84.2) and the lowest - in the Beer Sheva governorate (78.7). Among Arabs, the highest life expectancy is in the Safed governorate, followed by the Golan governorate, and the lowest in the Ramla governorate followed by the Sharon governorate.

Mortality rates

By the age of 5, it averages 4.9 per 1,000 residents, one of the lowest in the world; 5.6 per 1,000 among males and 4.3 per 1,000 among females. The death rate is higher than a thousand from the nationwide rate in the Haifa districts (5.1), the north (5.3) and the south (5.3). The lowest rate was in localities in the Judea and Samaria region - 4.0 per 1,000 residents. Mortality rates in localities in the non-Jewish sector are higher, and in remote communities even higher.

Mortality by causes of death: Low rates of cancer mortality were found in the Jerusalem District and in the Judea and Samaria area, while the high rate was found in the Southern District. Subdivided by sub-districts, low rates were found in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, and high rates in the Golan and Ashkelon governorates. Relatively high rates of heart disease mortality were found in the Northern and Haifa districts, compared to low rates in the Judea and Samaria area. Distributed by sub-districts, low rates were found in Jerusalem, Petah Tikva and Ashkelon districts, and high rates in Acre and Jezreel governorates.

High rates of infectious disease mortality were found in the Southern District compared to low rates in the Northern District. Subdivided by sub-districts, low rates were found in Golan, Safed and Jezreel governorates, and high rates in Be'er Sheva and Ashkelon governorates. In addition, high rates of diabetes mortality and cerebrovascular disease in the Northern District compared to low rates in the Judea and Samaria area. Distributed by sub-districts, high rates were found in the Jezreel and Hadera governorates, and low rates in the Judea and Samaria area and in the Rehovot district.

Large differences in mortality rates between localities as well as differences between Jewish and Arab localities. The high rates of heart disease mortality were found in Arab localities, while the higher rates of cancer mortality - most in Jewish localities.
