Candles have become a popular gift in recent years, but it turns out most of us don't know how to use them properly and they end very quickly - get some tips to help you extend candle life, including how to put it out properly

Do not turn off for three hours;

Chanukah is almost here and candles are very popular gifts (while in Europe and the United States this is the hottest season for candle sales because of Christmas). One of the major problems with candle purchases is the fact that they can turn off very quickly if you do not know how to maximize their lifespan.

Estelle Omens of the Diptik candle brand gave some advice to the British Daily Mail and revealed how to extend the candle's effectiveness. Among other things, she explains why the candle should be lit for about three hours the first time it is lit, it is very important to repeatedly center the fuse and the candle should not be extinguished.

This is how you extend your candle life

Tip 1 - First light for three hours

"When lighting the candle for the first time, it should burn at least two to three hours," explains Estelle. What lies behind this is the desire for wax to dissolve evenly from the sides to the middle, preventing the formation of canals or holes in the candle. She said an average candle weighing 190 grams could light up to 60 hours if used properly.

Tip 2 - Center the fuse

Alongside the burning time, Estelle explains why the candle's wick should always be in the center - "After you put out the fire, use a match or similar to center the wick while the wax is softer," she says, claiming it will ensure the candle burns evenly next time.

Tip 3 - Trim the fuse

Estelle says you always have to keep the wick 3 millimeters long, "When you burn a candle, the wax evaporates - which causes the candle to drop, but the wick doesn't come off as quickly. So you have to cut the wick to be only three millimeters in length." If you leave the candle burning for more than three hours, the expert recommends turning it off and pruning the wick before re-igniting it, otherwise the candle will start burning the wick's cotton - "which is what makes the black smoke and may also black out the candle holders." For heavy candle enthusiasts, you might even want to invest in a professional thread trimmer.

Tip 4 - Do not shut off

True, it is a tradition to extinguish a candle by exhaling, but Estelle claims that a fire spoon or candle extinguisher (yes, there is one such thing) should be used to lower the flame. Why? Because the exhalation also creates an unpleasant odor of smoke in the room, and it can also create a spark that can reach a dangerous place in the room and create a fire.

Tip 5 - Put in the freezer for reuse

Is the candle finished burning and left with its empty container? You can reuse it - after you clean it. There are countless ways to remove wax residue from the container when the candle has finished burning, but Estelle says the most effective way is to put the empty tool in the freezer overnight, which "shrinks" the wax and can be easily removed manually. Then you can get rid of any excess wax with alcohol and hot water. The other methods she recommends include using the microwave on the container with the remaining wax or pouring hot water into it and waiting for the wax to solidify and settle.

Tip 6 - Want a pleasant scent in the room? Use the spray

Note that a candle, however fragrant it may be, will not immediately smell you in the room. "Spray smells into the room better than that," she says, explaining that the key to a fragrant home is to use a combination of the two. "Scent spray gives you the instant result and then lights your candle and the melted wax will release the perfume even more."
