The hard-fought group rape affair, which occurred in 1999, is about to end. Shahar Mizrahi, the main suspect in the rape, in which they took part four, pleaded guilty Tuesday to a third-degree indictment in Jaffa Military Court, which included rape and grave abuse. The rape victim, Avitzah Schwartz, agreed to the proposed plea bargain, in which East will plead guilty to charges against him and will be sent to about four and a half years in prison. However, the final sentence in the case will be given on January 14.
The soldiers were charged with committing rape involving grievous beatings and forcing oral sex under loaded weapons threats, with some also committing a sodomy victim. Schwartz's lawyer, Ofer Ron, said the agreement to the plea bargain was made to avoid further trial, which would cause the victim, represented, to return to the severe trauma he had undergone some twenty years ago.
Remember, about twenty years ago, Mizrahi was charged, along with three other soldiers: Iyad Fares, Moti Farhi, and Jonathan Kirshenblum, with serious sexual offenses against Schwartz, a rookie at Zeke Base. In 2002, indictments were filed against them, but during the course of the legal process, Mizrahi fled the country through a fake US passport.
Mizrahi's disappearance damaged the legal process, causing two of the three additional defendants, fares and flowers to be acquitted. Kirshenblam, on the other hand, admitted the acts and was sentenced to six years in prison. The rape victim, 38-year-old Avitzh Schwartz, was exposed last year in his Facebook account and posted numerous posts on the subject.
