At 4 am on Friday (6th), a 20-foot-long police boat was reported to have sunk in Ma Liu Shui Marine Police Base, Qiaoxia Road, Dapu. Fortunately, no one was on board at the time and no casualties were caused. Sources said that the police vessel involved was moored at the time, and it was suspected that it would sink into the water because of the high winds and waves.
At the time of the incident, a strong monsoon signal was being issued, and a special weather alert was issued at the same time, stating "We are expecting strong northerly winds in Hong Kong. Citizens should be aware of the dangers caused by large sea waves." The maximum gusts of Shatin, Tai Mei Tuk and Sai Kung monitoring stations at Liushui Police Base are 31, 45 and 55 kilometers per hour, respectively. The latter two have strong winds; Tate's Cairn reaches 68 kilometers, which is a strong wind.
