Everyone who has experienced a birth (and anyone who does not) knows the ultrasound test - but not everyone knows what the doctor's duty is to perform this type of examination and what women's rights are about how to get the test results. It is important to know that a physician performing these tests is first and foremost required to conduct the examination professionally and in accordance with current practice. It is a duty not to neglect. In conjunction with this duty, there is a duty to know and explain to the woman the process, the limitations and benefits of the examination, as well as the significance of the findings, especially if there are exceptional findings.

Advances, technology and medical devices allow many malformations to be detected. However, the time constraints (duration of the test), the skill of all physicians, and specific difficulties with each test individually, have led the Association of Gynecology and Obstetricians to reduce the number of organs that must be reviewed at each examination and set general standards to be applied to all physicians.

For example, there is a professional duty to check the inventions and integrity of palms and feet, but the physician is not required to count the fingers. At the conclusion of the examination, a doctor will report that he or she is expecting a proper palm, but the parents do not know that this finding does not include reference to a number of normal fingers. This example shows that a situation may arise where parents receive a report from the doctor that everything is fine, return home calm and only after birth find that their child has multiple fingers. If the problem amounted to a plurality of fingers then fine, but this defect could be a sign of much more significant medical problems and the parents were denied the right to make decisions regarding continued pregnancy management.
