Tragedy in Jerusalem: A 50-year-old worker was killed Thursday after an elevator door repaired in the city's buildings closed and crushed him.
Initial investigation revealed that it was likely an external elevator contractor who had been commissioned to repair a freight elevator in the nation's buildings due to a malfunction. During the repair, a heavy iron door apparently closing in on the elevator fell and crushed it to death.
Israel Weingarten, a MDA paramedic who arrived at the scene, said: "Near the freight elevator, the man lay unconscious, with no signs of life. We performed medical examinations, and unfortunately we have nothing left but to determine his death on the spot. "
Shuki Monkotowitz, a ZAKA volunteer who handled the scene, added: "It is about 50 years old who was crushed from a freight elevator. MDA paramedic had to confirm his death at the scene. The circumstances of the incident are being investigated by the police. "
