MOSCOW - Russia has options to respond to all threats from NATO, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said, referring to the alliance's quest for hegemony throughout the world, including the Middle East.
"NATO extends to the east near the Russian border and there are hostile intentions against our country. It wants to prevail in the world and get rid of any potential competitors. It is also trying to upset the balance of Russia and China," Lavrov told a news conference at the end of the 20th OSCE meeting in Slovakia. This will be difficult because Russia is aware of what is happening and has what it has to respond to those threats it makes while ensuring its security and without entering into an arms race. ”
Lavrov explained that the decision to increase the NATO budget indicates a desire for hegemony, an abnormal situation and contravenes all the treaties adopted by the leaders of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, calling for adherence to the principle of forming a unified and indivisible field of security and returning to the source and foundations on which NATO was formed.
Lavrov noted Russia's initiative to the United Nations on global cybersecurity and the draft it published in the UN General Assembly, noting that the project to limit the race in space is on the table but the United States is trying to stop it and put obstacles.
Lavrov pointed out that NATO's declaration that cyberspace is an area of operations and activity is "something that needs to be studied and we must follow a rule in the Charter of the United Nations that security is our common right and must be guaranteed while ensuring the interests of each other."
The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) is the largest international regional security cooperation organization in the world, with 56 member states and began operations in 1975.
