Shai Nitzan Heritage: Decline in Public Trust

In a few days, Shai Nitzan will resign as Attorney General. At the farewell party, the Attorney General, and possibly judges from his authors, will congratulate him and pay tribute to his contribution to the strengthening of the rule of law. In my opinion, the opposite is true. Shai Nitzan leaves behind a difficult inheritance and frustrating legacy, the manifestation of which - a dramatic decline in public confidence in the law enforcement system, and especially in the prosecutor's office. Since the famous Levon affair, I do not remember such bleak days when citizens identify the law enforcement system as a political entity and trust in it is the same as that given to political parties.

The new attorney to be elected will have to put forth great efforts in renewing confidence in the prosecutor's office. Establishing the insight that in a democratic state, the pursuit of justice must be done justice rather than the trampling of interrogators and defendants, including human injury to the possession of innocence and human dignity.

In the future, research students will write seminars on the conduct of the police, the prosecutor's office and the government's legal advice in Netanyahu's files. Conduct that has greatly contributed to political chaos and created the impression of trying to bring about an exchange of power without the need for a ballot box. The latest curiosity in the cases is the appointment of Netanyahu's lawyers as witnesses. It is already difficult to decide whether it is intentional or ill-intentioned. I hope the second option is the right one. The best proof of the sense of persecution for Netanyahu is that the polls indicate that the Likud-led Likud is not losing power, but is getting stronger. Largely at Lieberman's expense, most jugglers lost their right-wing voters and remain with a group of ultra-Orthodox haters and importers of meat.

The publications on Minister Amir Ohana and his activity in the capital market remind me of a replay, as in the case of former Justice Minister Yaakov Ne'eman. When there is a minister who threatens the people-raised system, a newspaper article is published, which is under investigation, is under investigation and ends with an acquittal, after which there is a credit. The attorney general will make it clear that everything in the name of the law, but the public is no longer convinced, is my impression that media outlets, and perhaps police intelligence units, are already awaiting investigations and information against anyone who heads the law. Even after Netanyahu.

The talk of a blue-white unity government was a fiction. A party whose only message and behind it were candidates from the four wings of politics was "just not Bibi." No other essential message. In these circumstances, there was no way they could sit in a unity government with Netanyahu at the head, early in her term or end. It is doubtful that Benny Gantz at all wants to serve as prime minister, he understands the size of the task and the responsibility well. It is hard to believe that just because of the fear of Meir Lapid, Gantz did not reveal minimal leadership.

With all the sorrow over the need for new elections and the associated financial cost, it is imperative to remember that democracy is a valuable commodity. Behind the self-righteous and purported text on the indictments, two fundamental and crucial issues are to be decided. One: Is the State of Israel a Jewish state or a nation of all its nationals and citizens? The other: Is the State of Israel a democracy led by elected officials, or an elitist-dominated, in its own right, sponsored state that sits at the intersection of law and the media?

For the future of the state, it is imperative to hold elections and reach a decision. Because the decision is about the psyche of the nation and its democratic order.
