Hero of the day: The life of an 11-year-old resident of the Gaza Strip was saved on Thursday thanks to the resourcefulness of the Civil Administration officer, Deputy Penta Akalo, in the Allenby Pass. The boy, who was returning from medical care in Jordan, reached Allenby Passage on his way to his home in the Gaza Strip, where the officer came to accompany him in the crossing.
At one point, Akalu noticed that the child's condition was getting worse, and called the terminal wearer to give the child medical assistance. After examining the child, the medic estimated that the child would not survive the trip to the Gaza Strip without the aid of oxygen, and therefore provided him with an oxygen balloon for the trip up to Erez crossing.

In addition to the oxygen balloon up to the Erez checkpoint, Akalo contacted the Gaza Coordination and Liaison Director, with the aim of waiting for the child on the Palestinian side of the Erez checkpoint to carry an oxygen balloon to the hospital in the Gaza Strip.
