Colombo-Sana

Sri Lanka's disaster management center has killed eight people in accidents linked to days of torrential rains in the country, with more than 15,000 people affected.

More than 1,000 people have been evacuated to safer places, while more than 270 houses have been totally or partially affected by heavy rains and strong winds, Xinhua said in a statement.

Landslide warning is still in effect in many areas, including Ratnapura, south-central Sri Lanka and Kigal, in the central-western part of the country.

The Department of Meteorology predicted continued rainfall in several parts of Sri Lanka in the coming days.
