Off the coast of Mauretania: Numerous deaths during a boat crash in the Atlantic

Around 150 people were aboard a ship that sank off the coast of the West African state of Mauritania. At least 57 refugees died.



Before Mauritania, a boat accident has occurred with numerous deaths: at least 57 refugees have died in the capsizing of the ship. This was announced by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) late Wednesday evening. She relied on authority information from Mauritania.

83 people were rescued from the Atlantic. They are now taken care of, the IOM tweeted on.

Mauritanian authorities say they are dead after a boat carrying migrants sank off its coast today. Survivors told IOM staff the vessel left The Gambia last Weds. with at least 150 people aboard. Help is provided to 83 survivors by the government, IOM & UNHCR.

The ship left Gambia on Wednesday. On board were reportedly around 150 people. The search for possible survivors or victims will continue. About the circumstances of the accident there is no information yet.
