(CNN Spanish) - The president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, went out to the crossing of his US colleague, Donald Trump and said that his country is not “artificially raised the dollar”, as the US president had implied when he announced that he would refund import tariffs on steel produced in Brazil and Argentina.

Bolsonaro remarked that "we do not want to increase artificially here ... we are not artificially increasing the price of the dollar" by responding to the journalists who consulted him at the Palacio de la Alvorada, official residence, about Trump's announcement. On Monday, the US president posted on his official Twitter account that he would reimburse tariffs on steel and aluminum in South American countries: “Brazil and Argentina have been presiding over a massive devaluation of their currencies, which is not good for our farmers. Therefore, with immediate validity, I will restore tariffs on all steel and aluminum sent to the US. ”In the same publication of that social network, Trump also asked the Federal Reserve to act, for“ that countries , of which there are many, no longer take advantage of our strong dollar by further devaluing their currencies. This makes it very difficult for our manufacturers and farmers to export their products fairly. ”

Trump's announcement generated controversy in both Argentina and Brazil, countries in which several economic experts dedicated all kinds of analysis to explain what could happen from now on with those imports into the US. In that context, Bolsonaro had expressed his confidence in what was an issue that he would unlock personally just by calling Trump, due to the good relationship between them.

That is why, on Wednesday, he reiterated his belief that he will finally get the tariffs not modified because “there is still no firm decision on the part of the United States” and because he considers “we already have all the information about what happened and I think we will reach a good conclusion on this subject. ” He even graphed how the decision announced by Trump falls when he confessed that “there is no disappointment, because the last word has not been given (…). Not because a friend speaks to me badly in any situation, I will turn my back. ”

Finally, Bolsonaro argued that the depreciation of the real, the official Brazilian currency that this year has fallen about 8.5%, has been due to the commercial war between China and the US, and not to actions faced by his government.
