The city of Mehrdeh in Hama countryside witnessed this evening the celebration of the erection and lighting of the Christmas tree in the street of the Church of Joachim and Hanna for the Greek Orthodox celebration near the coming of Christmas and New Year in the presence of a mass crowd to celebrate the occasion.

In a statement to the SANA correspondent, Metropolitan Nicolas Baalbaki, Archbishop of Hama and its followers to the Greek Orthodox, pointed out that the Christmas tree symbolizes the renewal of life, joy and peace, expressing hope that peace and security will prevail throughout Syria.

Simon Khoury, the mayor of the city, pointed out that Mehrda celebrates the lighting of this tree in the midst of Syria's celebrations of Christmas and New Year and the victories of the Syrian Arab Army on terrorism and the return of safety to large areas of the province of Hama and along the geography of the homeland.

For his part, Maher Kawarma, a member of the People's Assembly in Hama province, said that the atmosphere of joy and joy prevailed in the city of Mharda on this occasion, which comes after several years during which the city and its steadfast people suffered from the terrorist attacks that killed hundreds of innocent civilians.

The Chairman of the City Council, Johnny Al-Sader, said that the Christmas tree contained various ornaments and forms of illuminated balls in multiple colors, dolls, angelic shapes and electric lamps in several colors and sizes, indicating that the celebration of the monument and lighting of the Christmas tree added more shine and splendor. In this celebration, Syria presented a choir and performed spectacular performances in the Church of St. Joachim and Hannah, with which the audience interacted greatly.

The tree's lighting was attended by Hama Governor Dr. Mohammed Al-Hazouri, Hama Branch Secretary of the Baath Arab Socialist Party Engineer Ashraf Bashouri and Bishop Ghattas Hazim Metropolit Baghdad and Kuwait and their followers of the Greek Orthodox coming from Kuwait to participate in this celebration and religious, party, administrative and civil activities.
