2019-12-06T17:47:18.307Z

The alleged perpetrator in the case of the Tiergarten murder has been moved according to media reports in another prison. Accordingly, there are indications that Russia wants to kill the man targeted.

After the murder of a Georgian in the Berlin Tiergarten Federal Intelligence Service and LKA apparently fear for the safety of the alleged contract killer. According to the news, the suspect Vadim Krasikov has been transferred to another detention center. The reason: The Federal Intelligence Service has apparently received a notice that Krasikov should be targeted killed in custody.

According to him, the order for the murder of Krasikov was made by the same body in Russia, which allegedly ordered the murder of the Georgian - out of concern that Krasikov could disclose details about the crime.

The Berlin newspaper "Morgenpost" had previously reported that the LKA feared for the safety of the alleged murderer. Therefore, he was transferred from the Moabit Detention Center to a particularly secure part of the Tegel Prison. Officially, nobody wanted to comment on the case.

The Georgian Zelimkhan Khangoshvili was shot dead by a man on a bicycle in broad daylight in the Kleiner Tiergarten in Berlin at the end of August. A short time later Krasikov was arrested as a suspected perpetrator. Meanwhile, the Attorney General has taken over the investigation in the case.

Krasikov arrived under false identity

Khangoshvili had fought Russia in the second Chechen war. Later he worked for years as an informer and mediator for Georgian and Ukrainian anti-terrorist authorities. US services also benefited from his contacts in the difficult-to-reach Caucasus region. After constant threats and an attack on him, he fled first to Ukraine and later to Germany. His application for asylum was rejected.

The alleged perpetrator entered the EU at the end of August with identity papers identifying him as Vadim Sokolov, 49. The SPIEGEL and its cooperation partners Bellingcat, The Dossier Center and The Insider had revealed shortly after the murder that Krasikov had evidently entered Germany under false identity. In fact, he is 54 years old, for example.

Germany blows out Russian intelligence officials

The murder has become a political issue. Investigators suspect Russia of having ordered the crime. Germany has therefore expelled two Russian intelligence workers with immediate effect. They have been officially accredited to the embassy as diplomats.

In a first reaction it was said from Moscow that the expulsions were "unfriendly and unfounded".
