The attacker, who shot dead three people at a US military base in Florida, is a Saudi Arabian air force soldier. This was confirmed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. The man was therefore for a training at the Naval Air Station Pensacola. According to media reports, the investigators are investigating a possible terrorist motive.
The gunman had opened fire this Friday morning in a building with classrooms at the Pensacola military base. He killed three people and wounded seven others before he was shot dead by the police.
Governor DeSantis said it is now up to the Saudi government to support the victims. "You owe something here." Desantis emphasized that people's lives had been saved by the quick and courageous reaction of those present. The federal police have taken over the investigation, Sheriff David Morgan said.
Saudi king: people love America
US President Donald Trump wrote on Twitter that Saudi King Salman ibn Abd al-Aziz had called him and expressed his sincere condolences. He had expressed his sympathy with the families and friends of the killed and wounded soldiers.
.... The King said that the people of Saudi Arabia are greatly affected by the barbaric actions of the shooter, and that this person in no way or form represents the feelings of the Saudi people.
- Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 6, 2019Trump continued, "The king has said that the Saudi people are greatly angered by the shooter's barbaric actions and that this person in no way represents the feelings of the Saudi people who love the American people."
The Naval Air Station in the southern United States is an important training center for, among others, Navy pilots. The attack was the second incident within a few days: this Wednesday, a sailor at the US Navy Pearl Harbor in Hawaii had killed two people by shots and injured another one. He then took his own life.
