Shiite crescendo opens: Syrian news site Al-Order reported Sunday (Iraq) that Iraq's army has decided to deploy troops of Hashad A-Shabi, a pro-Iranian Shi'ite militia on the border with Syria with a view to fighting ISIS. According to the report, troops of the militia will be stationed south of the city of Mosul.

The militia's webpage reads "Major forces of the Eighth Brigade have come to strengthen the Mosul front", noting that "there is intelligence information indicating the presence of many terrorists who plan to carry out attacks against targets in the region."

The site notes that these forces, which are considered elite forces, have been particularly effective during the Iraqi war against ISIS, even other sources point to the association between the organization in general and the Eighth Division in particular with Iran.

The militia blamed Israel and the United States for air strikes against the organization's fighters, on the Syrian-Iranian border, when they claimed militia fighters, warehouses and weapons of the organization.

Following the attacks, the US declared war on the United States, and the militia's spiritual leader, Hazam Al-Khairi, said "any presence of American forces in Iraq is prohibited."

The border between Iraq and Syria is considered to be a sensitive area for Israeli security, and this is the concern that Iran is passing military equipment through its forces in Syria and Hezbollah. The presence of the pro-Iranian militia on the border can make it difficult to control the crossings in this area, and make it easier for Tehran to deliver weapons that threaten Israel.
