The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) investigation into potential links between Donald Trump's campaign team and Russia has not been politically motivated, according to a report by the US Department of Justice's internal regulator. The investigations initiated in 2016 against Trump's campaign advisers were in accordance with the Ministry's and the FBI's rules, according to a report by the Inspector General of the Ministry of Justice, Michael Horowitz.
Accordingly, no evidence was found that the investigation had started because of political bias. US President Trump has always claimed that the FBI spied on his campaign team.
Although the information of the FBI had been limited. But they were sufficient to initiate investigations in July 2016. However, the applications for monitoring the campaign advisors Carter Page, George Papadopoulos, Michael Flynn and Paul Manafort had shown serious shortcomings.
Barr interprets the report in his own way
Attorney General William Barr said the report said that the FBI had launched an "overarching investigation" into a presidential candidate's election campaign based on "thinnest suspicions". In his opinion, these were not sufficient to initiate investigations.
The investigation was taken over in May 2017 by FBI special investigator Robert Mueller. Mueller examined whether the Trump camp in 2016 election collusion met with representatives of Russia and whether Trump has obstructed the judiciary.
