The board of directors of the Fund for Reducing the Effects of Drought and Natural Disasters agreed in its meeting today to compensate more than 9,400 farmers in the Al-Ghab area and the two governorates of Damascus and Deir Al-Zour with amounts amounting to 528 million Syrian pounds.
The compensation included 5737 farmers in the Al-Ghab area who were affected by the flooding of the wheat crop in the middle of the first month of the current year by 254.3 million pounds.
It also included farmers in Al-Qutayfa, Al-Haramoun, Rankous and Yabroud in Damascus countryside affected by the frost at the end of the fourth month of this year in the crop of cherries, apricots, peaches, pears, apples, almonds and nuts, and they totaled 3027 farmers at a value of 235 million pounds in addition to the farmers affected in Ras al-Maarra due to the frost in the same period with the number of cherry crops 128 farmers, about 11.1 million pounds.
The compensation also included 126 farmers in Gebdeen, Maaloula, Arab Hosh, and Assal Al-Ward in Damascus countryside, affected by the thermal variation at the end of the seventh month of this year, with summer potatoes and green beans, at an amount of 16.9 million pounds, and 389 farmers in the Deir Ezzor Governorate of the cotton crop and Tandoora were affected by torrential rains and torrential rains in the end of the month Fifth of 2018, about 11.2 million pounds.
