WASHINGTON-SANA, Democrats in the US Congress have demanded that countries seeking technology agree

Washington-Sana

Democratic lawmakers in the US Congress demanded that countries seeking nuclear technology from the United States, including Saudi Arabia, agree to undergo comprehensive inspections under the auspices of the United Nations.

Reuters quoted Democratic aides in Congress as saying today that Saudi Arabia and other countries are seeking to use American technology to develop nuclear power plants and must agree to comprehensive United Nations inspections under the defense policy bill expected to be announced this week.

The measure, led by Democratic Rep. Bradley Sherman, demands the Saudi regime and other countries to sign the so-called additional protocol ... and this requires the United Nations International Atomic Energy Agency to conduct snap inspections of nuclear power facilities to ensure that countries do not develop nuclear weapons materials.

Two aides to congressmen revealed that this request was contained in the annual national defense authorization bill, which is one of the few legislations that Congress must pass each year and can be announced in the coming days after months of negotiations.

President Donald Trump's administration has long been holding talks out of the spotlight with the Saudi regime, which wants to build two nuclear power plants, and US lawmakers are seeking more oversight of any deal with Saudi Arabia.

The American Foreign Policy magazine revealed last July that members of the American Senate are preparing for a joint bill between the Democratic and Republican parties to pressure the Trump administration to disable nuclear deals with the Saudi regime, and the project confirms that the US-Saudi nuclear cooperation agreements lack any restrictive international standards that protect From the spread of nuclear weapons.
