(CNN) - Democrats from the House of Representatives and the White House reached an agreement to advance the North American Free Trade Agreement (USMCA in English or T-Mec in Spanish) renegotiated by President Donald Trump after months of negotiations for changes in Democratic priorities, House of Representatives President Nancy Pelosi announced Tuesday morning.
"There is no doubt that this trade agreement is much better than NAFTA," Pelosi said at a press conference.
If ratified, the trade agreement would represent Trump's main legislative success since the Democrats took control of the House of Representatives last November. The pact is also seen as essential by a number of first-year Democrats from more conservative districts, who not only support the agreement in its essence but also believe that a bipartisan achievement will play well in the campaign.
When asked why the Democrats would give Trump a victory over an important legislative priority even when the House proceeds with articles of political judgment, Pelosi said: "We are declaring victory for the American worker and what is in this agreement." .
