In the article, Bai Gaohan pointed out that he has always been concerned about the development of the situation in Hong Kong, and also noted the results of the district board elections, and pointed out that Hong Kong voters had unprecedentedly elected 17 district boards controlled by democrats.
He believes that the SAR Government must sober up and listen to the wishes of the people, otherwise Hong Kong will be dead. He went on to point out that it is not correct to think that Hong Kong has democracy as a result, and argued that Hong Kong must establish a timetable for democratic reforms, so that the public can trust the government again, and implement a one-person-one-vote election every few years at each government level.
Bai Gaohan emphasized that if the Beijing government expects stability in Hong Kong, it must believe that democracy is not a threat, but a safety valve that lets citizens release grievances and voices.
