The Chilean Air Force announced the disappearance of its cargo plane, which was heading to a base in Antarctica with 38 people on board.
Reuters quoted a Chilean Air Force source as saying in a statement that a Hercules C-130 cargo plane with 38 people on board, including 17 crew members and 21 passengers, had left the southern city of Punta Arenas and lost contact with it after about an hour of flying.
After announcing the loss of contact with the cargo plane, the Chilean Air Force announced a state of alert, and the Air Force and search and rescue teams began a search for the plane that disappeared while carrying out logistical support missions to maintain Chilean Antarctic base installations.
