Damascus-Sana
Syria is affected by an arctic depression, which starts next Thursday and will last for three days, accompanied by torrential rainy rains in most areas and snowy mountains.
From the Meteorological Directorate, Shadi Gawish explained to Sana that the effect of the depression begins next Thursday and its effectiveness will increase on Friday and Saturday with heavy rain precipitation in most areas, especially coastal, northwest and snowy mountains on mountain heights at an altitude of 1400 meters or more.
Gawish pointed out that the depression gradually ends on Sunday morning in the interior and southern regions, and at night in the northwest and coastal regions, followed by a noticeable decrease in temperature that will continue for the rest of the next week.
And Gawish indicated that the passage of the depression over the Mediterranean Sea before reaching the country will modify the cold air mass, which prevents the formation of snowstorms, warning of the formation of torrents in valleys and slopes, the erosion of soil for its long duration, and the formation of fog on the mountainous highlands due to the low clouds.
Gawish recommended drivers to take precautions in mountainous areas, including putting iron chains on tires and checking lights and brakes.
