Russia did not internalize: The rules of the Communist era changed

Yesterday afternoon, when it became clear that the International Sports Doping Agency had announced Russia's suspension of major sports events over the next four years, including the Tokyo Olympics this summer and the 2022 Qatar World Cup, I thought of Esther Roth-Shmorov.

In the summer of 1976, Esther represented Israel in the 100 meter hurdles finals, a historic Israeli athlete's appearance in the Olympic finals. She crossed the finish line sixth, in a time of 13.04 seconds, slowing just over a quarter of a second to the gold medal winner, Johanna Schaller of East Germany. One more East German, two Russians and one Polish preceded the Israeli, which was the fastest of all Western countries. A decade and a half later, when it broke up in the USSR, it became clear that the Russians and all their metastases in Eastern Europe, most notably East Germany, had the authority and approval of drug labs to grow sporting monsters, men and women, that served as a device to glorify these dark regimes. The medal table at the Olympics, but erased generations of athletes, many of whom admitted years later how they served the propaganda apparatus.

The sediment leakage westward

The doping mechanism in global sports has flowed west. American runner Marion Jones lost three gold medals after admitting to using steroids at the Sydney 2000 Olympics. Another American, Florence Griffith-Joyner, achieved unusual results for her age 30 years ago, and after she died at age 38, was arrested for drug discovery in her body.

In 2007, the French newspaper "Liberion" announced the death of Tour de France because of the use of stimulants and steroids, all of which overshadowed Lance Armstrong, who is considered Michael Jordan's competitor for the title of "greatest athlete ever." Armstrong has been dispossessed of all his dates, including the disgraceful throwing of his name into the dustbin of history.

The gold evidence provided by Gregory Rodchenko, formerly responsible for the materials testing lab in Russia that fled the United States about five years ago, has enabled a comprehensive investigation by the World Doping Agency into sports, which has discovered a systematic state-sponsored and knowledgeable mechanism. But what is sad and horrifying is that this is not one person, however important, or the department that has refused - but the establishment mentality of cheating, hiding and lying, as in the James Bond films that live in old worlds of good and bad.

Russia has been excluded from the International Athletics Association for three and a half years. At the recent Winter Olympics Russia was suspended, and at the 2016 Rio Olympics its athletes and weightlifters were not allowed to appear. Still, its Russian athletes, who prove independence and openness in terms of testing them without state involvement, can compete without the sponsorship of a flag or anthem.

At the corporate level, even if Russian athletes can appear under the flag of Five Rings and without a hymn, it is a terrible damage to Russian national pride, and especially to President Vladimir Putin, who has always considered hosting a sports competition - last year's World Cup and the Sochi Winter Olympics - an opportunity to introduce another face to his country.

Serial criminal

Russia has three weeks to appeal the decision that presents it as a serial sports criminal. Since we know Vladimir Putin, we will soon hear that the Cossack was stolen. In terms of the Israeli delegation, absence, suspension or even a flag-free performance and anthem by Dina and Erina Abrina, the two nurses who control the artistic gymnastics industry, can help, for example, an Israeli lineman who seize the difficulties they face, to become a leading candidate for an Olympic gold medal this summer In Tokyo.
