Satellite imagery revealed Wednesday the construction of underground missiles for storage of missiles at the base of pro-Iranian militias built by Revolutionary Guards in northeastern Syria.
According to images published by Imagisat International, ImageSat International - ISI, the tunnel is near the border with Iraq and its purpose is to store and maintain missiles.
The Imam Ali Revolutionary Revolutionary Guards Base is the diamond in the crown of Iranian control of Syria. It allows the passage of a land route across Iraq to Iran and eliminates the need for Revolutionary Guards forces to hold an airborne landing system, a system that could collapse with widespread Israeli attack. The base was built to contain large military force and well-armed, perhaps even in long-range missiles.
The uncovered tunnel proves that the base was built as a front base for advanced weapons storage that Iranians could use in the event of a comprehensive confrontation with Israel. Foreign media recently reported the landing of Iranian transport aircraft at T4 base in Syria, and various sources have estimated that these are purse weapons deliveries for Quds force in the country.
Five members of pro-Iranian militias were killed during an attack near the Imam Ali base on Saturday, the Syrian Center for Human Rights said. Unidentified aircraft reportedly bombed sites belonging to Iran and its loyal forces near the Iraqi border.
"We'll erase Tel Aviv"
Lebanese Defense Minister Elias Bao Saab expressed anger on Wednesday with the words of Iranian Revolutionary Guards Special Adviser Mortza Martha Karbani, who threatened that his country would attack Israel from Lebanon.
Saab said: "This is a miserable statement that is not acceptable to us at all. In fact, this was said to be a blatant violation of Lebanon's sovereignty and Anna fits the relationship with the Islamic Republic of Iran."
Karbani, adviser to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards commander, threatened to "destroy Tel Aviv" in response to threats by Israeli officials. In remarks translated by the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs and State, Karbani told the Mizan News Agency that if Israel "makes even the smallest mistake about Iran, we will wipe out Tel Aviv in Lebanon's shooting."
