(CNN) - An armed man fled after killing six people, on Tuesday, at a hospital in the eastern city of Ostrava, Czech Republic. There are two people injured, according to police.

"The police are intensely searching for the perpetrator," police said in a tweet. "We ask the public for cooperation." Prime Minister Andrej Babiš confirmed the death toll in an interview with the Czech state television network.

The incident occurred just after 7 am, Interior Minister Jan Hamáček tweeted. He added that police and emergency response units attended.

CNN contacted the police for more information about the reason and context of the attack, but declined to comment. Nor did they comment on the identity of the victims.

Ostrava is an industrial and mining city in the rust belt of the Czech Republic, near the border with Poland.
