The Minister of Water Resources discusses with the Chinese ambassador the expansion of cooperation in the field of water projects

The Minister of Water Resources Eng. Hussein Arnous discussed with the Ambassador of the Republic of China in Damascus Fung Biao today the expansion of the fields of work and joint cooperation between the two countries, especially in the fields of water projects, including the rehabilitation of a wastewater treatment plant in Adra.

The Minister of Water Resources stated during the meeting, which was attended by representatives of the Chinese Coms Company, that the project to rehabilitate the Adra treatment plant was placed in the list of priority and urgent projects, noting the importance of the plant that was completed in 1997 as it stretches over an area of ​​64 hectares and has a production capacity of 484 thousand cubic meters of good water For irrigation, it irrigates 18 thousand hectares and contributes to the generation of 6.6 MW of electricity. The resulting sludge is used as fertilizer for agricultural lands.

The Minister pointed out that, immediately after the liberation of Eastern Ghouta from the abomination of terrorism, the Ministry prepared a study for the project and was able, with its local expertise and its own capabilities, to restore the plant to work partially and we are currently seeking to return it to work with total energy, pointing to the existence of contracts to repair water transmission lines to the plant with Syrian construction companies.

For his part, the Chinese ambassador expressed his country's desire to cooperate with Syria and develop relations in all fields, especially the water sector, and to contribute to the reconstruction of Syria, expressing his hope that this project would be a model for launching it to other projects in various fields.

It is noteworthy that the Chinese company KMS is a governmental company working in the field of treatment plants, sewage and water.

The meeting was attended by Assistant Minister and General Director of the General Company for Sanitation in Damascus and directors of sanitation and planning in the ministry.
