US prevent UN meetings on the situation in North Korea

2019-12-10T02:01:55.920Z

A representative of the Kim regime had threatened with trouble - this has apparently made an impression in the White House: The US blocked a UN deadline, which should be about human rights violations in North Korea.

Just recently, US President Donald Trump had tweeted a rather unveiled threat to Kim Jong Un. But now the White House seems to be back on a more conciliatory course in dealing with North Korea. Although this course in the current case, the actual partners and human rights activists around the world should anger.

Following furious objections from Pyongyang, the White House has prevented a scheduled Tuesday meeting in the UN Security Council on the disastrous human rights situation in North Korea. The United States refused to support the meeting in the highest UN body. This was reported by several dpa diplomats on Monday (local time) in New York.

According to the experts, the decision to serve the appeasement of leader Kim Jong Un was taken at the highest level in Washington. So: in the White House.

This was preceded by a letter from North Korean Ambassador Kim Song to members of the Security Council last week: "We consider every meeting in the Security Council on" human rights issues "as another serious provocation in the spirit of hostile politics and will therefore strongly respond to the latter." He also attacked the US directly.

Without the US, the appointment can not be scheduled

The United Nations Mission deprived the planned consultations of their support. The meeting was never officially scheduled, but was originally scheduled to be raised on Tuesday with the approval of 9 of the 15 members of the council - this was no longer possible without the US.

Instead, the United States requested a meeting on "Recent Developments on the Korean Peninsula." The session, which was scheduled for Wednesday, is also about recent missile tests and provocation in North Korea.

On Sunday, North Korea announced a "very important" test on a satellite launch facility. Experts suggest that North Korea has tested a rocket engine. Earlier, the North Korean UN Mission in New York rejected talks with the US on nuclear disarmament.

Open insult from North Korea towards Trump

Trump warned Pyongyang to break his disarmament commitments, prompting North Korea's Asia-Pacific Peace Committee leader Kim Yong Chol to denounce Trump as a "reckless and unpredictable old man."

The exchange of blows is the latest in a series of disturbing signs. The Communist leadership recently threatened a "new way" should the US not come forward with new proposals for a negotiated settlement by the end of the year.

Despite a general relationship between Trump and Kim and two joint meetings, there was nothing to indicate that both sides are ready to make concessions. In South Korea, it is feared that the sealed-off neighboring country could abolish its self-imposed test ban on nuclear bombs and military long-range missiles in the near future.
