At the Legislative Council meeting, the Deputy Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Chen Baili, responded to a question from the tourism industry Legislative Councillor Yao Sirong. He said that in the 2019/20 year, a total of HK $ 169 million was invested in the promotion of tourists, and an additional 326 million was allocated for enhanced promotion. In response to the announcement of the cancellation of many large-scale events this year, including the Hong Kong Cycling Festival and the Hong Kong Food and Wine Festival, the HKTB's overall expenditure this year has saved HK $ 200 million.

He continued that the government would allocate the amount of saved expenses, including setting up preferential platforms in conjunction with various industries to increase consumer spending among Hong Kong people and tourists; and it would strengthen the promotion of many large-scale events next year, including the Chinese New Year show, the International Rugby Sevens Wait. He said that the Bureau has launched a number of relief measures, including waiving the industry's participation in trade fairs and introducing travel agency incentive programs. Among them, more than 10,000 passengers have benefited from supporting travel agency programs.
