A number of medical community groups, including the HA Staff Front, the Hong Kong Occupational Therapists Union, the Hong Kong Speech Therapists General Union, and the Hong Kong Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices General Union, held a rally in Edinburgh Square at 7pm. The theme of the conference was to explain the concept and importance of establishing a health care union, legal issues related to union activities, and future challenges for unions. Two of the organizers that hosted the rally, the HA's Staff Front and the Hong Kong Speech Therapists General Union, have registered and gazetted with the Staff Registration Office and are recruiting members. Luo Zhuoyao, the HA's staff front committee, revealed that it recruits all HA's staff and now has about 300 members. Li Wenling, the preparatory committee of the General Union of Speech Therapists of Hong Kong, revealed that the union currently has about 100 members. The goal is to collect about 1,200 adults in the industry to join the union for future actions.

Ma Zhongyi: Trade union representatives can talk to management

Hong Kong Public Medical Doctors Association Chairman Ma Zhongyi said that under the current HA mechanism, it is difficult for unions to speak for members, such as internal hearings held after employees are complained, and unions are not entitled to attend. Ma Zhongyi believes that it is important for trade unions to enter the HA's structure, because if the union members reach 20% of the total number of members in the sector, they can have seats on the consultation committee, which can give trade union representatives the opportunity to directly communicate with Dialogue between the CEO and the chairman.
