A Swiss couple decided to turn a luxury apartment in Tel Aviv into his vacation home

A Swiss couple with their adult daughter found the ultimate vacation home in a luxury apartment in Tel Aviv. To match it to their needs, they hired a designer who redistributed the rooms, chose natural materials and maintained a modern-European design line.

The project: A 26th floor apartment (out of 27 floors) in the Sotin Tower in Tel Aviv
Tenants: Foreigners, a Swiss couple with their adult daughter
Area: 140 sqm + 30 sqm balcony

The Tel Aviv vacation apartment is the soul of many foreigners who want to spend their annual summer vacation in the big city. Interior designer Karen Klein was hired by a Swiss couple who bought a luxury apartment in a tower in Tel Aviv, and sought to adapt the space to their needs and seasonal visits to the apartment. This paper had a five-room apartment, but the acquisition of the area in the initial structure allowed the designer to plan it from scratch.

"The main constraint was the location of the balcony in the center of the apartment," explains Klein. "The balcony actually divided the space into two parts so that it was not possible to" steal "a little from the living room or the kitchen for one room - and vice versa. The big one will be public space and the subsidiary suite, which will also include a living room and kitchen and will be like a small apartment by itself. "

Another challenge facing the designer was the apartment's mantle walls, which did not include 90-degree connections between the walls. "The great difficulty was to utilize every space in the apartment and the disproportion we solved in creative ways. For example, a triangle created between the kitchen and the girl's room became a room with a hidden door from the direction of the kitchen."

Like most foreigners, the main time the family spends in the country during the spring and summer months, so the designer gave up a dining area inside the apartment, which - together with a well-equipped kitchenette - went outside to the balcony. The highlight of the apartment is the spectacular view of the Tel Aviv roofs day and night. "The goal was to maintain maximum openness towards the landscape. There is no partition that meets the walls, but only the sliding doors of the rooms that close at night.

The design of the apartment is adapted to the style of the occupants - a modern line with European touches and a dominant wooden combination. A special parquet was imported from Italy and installed in the shape of a fishbone, which creates complex geometric shapes in the space. Decorative wooden doors were installed in the rooms. The landlords' request was to use as much natural materials as possible - besides the wood, also with stone cladding for the bathroom and granite countertops in the kitchen.

The kitchen is painted in minimalist dark gray with facades that maintain a refined look. In the center was a large island located parallel to the tall units, with storage solutions for keeping clean. The island contrasts with the bright and solid furniture of the living room. "To maintain a light and airy look, we used metal, mirrors and covert lighting. These, combined with the natural materials, allowed for the feeling of a large, bright space that makes the landscape look like home decor."

Bathroom design is often an opportunity to fulfill customer wishes, a place to fulfill fantasies. "The master suite bathroom continues the open line of the apartment where we realized the client's dream of sitting in the bathtub in front of the view. This was a design challenge, but we succeeded." The bathroom is covered with gray natural stone from floor to ceiling, which also extends to large floor tiles. A large mirror on the wall reflects the open view in all directions.

The designer took the occupants on a quest for interesting materials for the home and thus exposed them to tourism, culinary and local design. "The joint recreation experience, apart from the adventure, turned out to be significant to the design process. Together we saw and experienced contemporary Tel Aviv design and we could understand what are the principles and ideas that guide us in the design of the apartment.
