The Water Supplies Department announced today (11th) that after the tendering process, the design, construction and operation contracts for the first stage of Tseung Kwan O's proposed desalination plant have been awarded and will be awarded by Acciona Agua SA, Jardine Engineering Limited and China Construction Engineering ( Hong Kong) Co., Ltd. is responsible for the "AJC Joint Venture" with a total contract value of about 9 billion yuan. The department pointed out that the construction works will begin this month and it is expected to be put into operation in 2023.

Daily water production reaches 135,000 cubic meters

The Water Supplies Department said that the total value of the contract is about 9 billion yuan. The design and construction of the desalination plant will begin this month and is expected to be operational in 2023. By then, the daily water production will reach 135,000 cubic meters. The contract period is 10 years and can be extended for 5 years in accordance with the contract provisions.

The spokesman said that the desalination plant will provide Hong Kong with strategic water resources that are not affected by climate change. The desalination plant will use reverse osmosis technology, which has been proven in earlier pilot studies to produce Fresh water standard.
