Rome-SANA, Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte called on European Union countries to take a stand on violations

Rome-Sana

Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte called on European Union countries to take a stand on violations of the Turkish regime for economic waters in the eastern Mediterranean and the Ankara agreements on maritime borders with the Government of National Accord in Libya.

"The question of Turkey's respect for sovereignty and sovereign rights over the exclusive economic zones of all its neighboring countries can emerge in the discussions and decisions of the European summit in Brussels," Conte media quoted as saying during a parliamentary testimony on the eve of the European Council summit.

He added, "This issue, which was previously addressed by the European summits in the past June and October, and in 2018 also stands out not only against the background of Ankara's intervention in the exclusive economic zone of Cyprus, but also following the two memoranda that Turkey signed with the Libyan government of government recently on security and the determination of exclusive economic areas. ”

The Libyan parliament had denounced last month, "the two memoranda of understanding in the security and maritime areas" signed by the Libyan government of reconciliation with the Turkish regime, stressing its rejection of them because they are in violation of the constitutional declaration and political agreement between the Libyan parties.

Conte stressed the importance of "the European Council reaffirming its support for member states bordering the eastern Mediterranean and demanding full respect for international law," explaining that "Italy continues to support European support to Cyprus in this regard."

The Turkish system is conducting gas exploration activities off the coast of Cyprus, despite warnings and international positions denouncing what many parties considered an attack on the sovereignty of Cyprus and a violation of international law.
