(CNN) - A jury on Tuesday convicted Bampumim Teixeira of first-degree murder for the murders of two doctors in Boston, who were found in pools of blood inside his penthouse in May 2017.

Teixeira, 33, who had worked as a janitor in the building, was convicted of fatally stabbing Colombian doctor Lina Bolaños, 39, and her fiancé Richard Field, 48, both known anesthesiologists. He was also convicted of armed robbery, kidnapping and housing invasion.

The case was known for the violence of the facts and the apparent mystery about what motivated him. The doctors were beaten and their hands had been tied, according to a testimony at the trial. In addition, the words "revenge" and "he killed my wife" were scrawled on the wall in large letters and the officers found crossed out and marked photos, a detective testified.

Prosecutors questioned about 30 witnesses during the trial, including family and friends of doctors, emergency service personnel and investigators. Teixeira's defense did not present any evidence, but questioned the credibility and accuracy of the police investigation.

Teixeira said in an interview with the subsequent police the murders that he had maintained a relationship with Bolaños, that Field allegedly killed the woman in a moment of rage after meeting her with Teixeira and that Teixeira killed him in self-defense.

Prosecutors said Teixeira used his knowledge about the building to sneak into the place and reach the attic on the 11th floor, home of the doctors, the day they were killed. Prosecutors added that the evidence against Teixeira was "overwhelming" and "condemnatory." And they said their interview with the police was "imagined."

“We have gone beyond the absurd. Now we are in the theater of the absurd, ”said Deputy District Attorney John Pappas.

On two occasions this Tuesday, Teixeira was forcibly removed from the court due to his outbursts. In the morning, he threatened Pappas and his family, which could lead to additional charges against him. He was also taken out of court before the verdict for shouting about the victim's last words.
His sentence is scheduled for December 13.

"It has been a terrible experience for families and we hope they can overcome this," said Bob Pierce, a family lawyer.

Teixeira was arrested in the hall of the building

Both Bolaños and Field tried desperately to get help before they were killed. They called 911 several times, but communications were interrupted or inaudible, and they sent text messages to their friends with few words to call the police, according to testimony from the trial.

A worried friend alerted the building janitor, who then contacted the police. Authorities shot Teixeira during a "violent fight" in a hallway of the building and then arrested him, police said.

Teixeira then told the officers that there were bodies in the attic, according to a Boston police detective. Police found a backpack with a replica of guns and jewels around, the district attorney said.

When Teixeira was interrogated at the hospital the next day, he told police he had a brief affair with Bolaños and saw Field stabbed his fiancee in an episode of anger. He added that the doctor threatened to kill him.

Bolaños was found with 24 stab wounds, including some that cut his jugular, and head and face wounds, according to a coroner. Field was killed by a knife wound that cut his carotid artery, the coroner said at the trial.

Teixeira grew up in Guinea-Bissau and then moved to Cape Verde to study psychology at Jean Piaget University. He moved to Boston in 2010 to live with his adoptive mother, but after a year in the United States, he broke the relationship abruptly, Maria Luisa Teixeira told CNN in 2017.
