Trump and the Ukraine affair: Republicans go from impeachment proceedings from January

2019-12-11T18:41:19.639Z

Because of the Ukraine affair Donald Trump is increasingly under pressure. Party friends anticipate the impending start of impeachment proceedings - and deny their president a wish.

An impeachment trial against US President Donald Trump could begin in the opinion of his party friends in the Senate in a few weeks. In January, the trial would be the first item in the Congress Chamber's agenda, Republican majority leader Mitch McConnell said.

Previously, he had signaled that the Republicans are looking for a quick approach to then be able to devote themselves to other topics. They would refuse Trump's request for a full trial with testimonies from his rival, Democrat Ex-Vice-President Joe Biden. This could take weeks and possibly coincide with the first primaries of the Democrats.

The legal committee of the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives had formulated charges against Trump on Tuesday. The President is accused of abuse of office and obstruction of the investigation work of the congress in Ukraine affair. The vote in the entire chamber next week is expected to result in impeachment proceedings against Trump.

An impeachment of Trump himself, however, is considered unlikely because it ultimately decides the Senate. And the Republicans dominating there hold so far to their party friend.
