A meeting in the Presidency of the Council of Ministers specified the start of services for the payment of water, electricity and communications bills, traffic violations and financial fees, and some transactions of transport directorates electronically in a preliminary and experimental manner in the Damascus Water Corporation and its countryside, the General Establishment for Electricity Distribution and the Syrian Telecommunications Company in addition to the ministries of Transport and Interior and the Damascus Governorate.
During the meeting chaired by Eng. Imad Khamis, the Prime Minister, the mechanism for the start of the Syrian company for electronic payments in coordination with the relevant ministries and the Central Bank of Syria was electronic circulation of bills in the specified institutions during the first quarter of next year and start with billing of communications and services of transport directorates in the first place, provided that the work is evaluated periodically To reach the best formula for entering the entire system, work gradually over the next year.
The Central Bank of Syria and the Electronic Payments Company were asked to complete the networking between them and connect the commercial and real estate banks in addition to the Bemo and Al-Baraka banks to the national network in a safe and risk-free environment and assign the ministries of finance and communications, the central bank and the electronic payments company board to solve all the particulars related to completing the work on time .
The discussions included the proposed scenarios for the participation of all citizens in the electronic payment system and the required incentives, as the system enables them to pay their bills and obligations and saves time and achieves a high degree of reliability.
Emphasis was placed on completing an advanced incentive system for the employees of the payments company, providing them with specialized cadres, developing an ongoing training plan, amending legislation and laws in line with the directions of the next stage, and Engineer Khamis agreed to secure all the requirements of the company.
Eng. Khamis noted the efforts made to implement the electronic payment system, stressing the need to intensify the steps to achieve significant progress during the next year to complete it as an essential step for the electronic government.
