Li & Fung Center spends 3.5 million days on terraced solar panels with an annual output of over 140,000 kWh

In order to promote the development of renewable energy, the Hong Kong Government has taken the lead in launching a feed-in tariff plan. The two power companies will repurchase electricity generated by private renewable energy power generation units at a higher price. Many companies have participated since the launch of the plan. Li & Fung Logistics, a subsidiary of Li & Fung Co., Ltd., also announced that it will lay 336 solar panels on the rooftop of its headquarters in Lifeng, Sha Tin, to participate in the on-grid tariff. The solar company assisting Li & Fung Logistics stated that the system will cost about 3.5 million Hong Kong dollars and is expected to pay back in 8 to 10 years. The system can produce 145,000 kWh of electricity each year, which can reduce about 95.8 tons of carbon dioxide, which is equivalent to the amount of carbon dioxide that 4,165 trees can absorb.

The on-grid tariff plan is to install solar panels or wind power installations in the private sector, and then connect the two power grids, and the two power sources buy back electricity at a higher price. At the meeting of the two power companies in the Legislative Council ’s announcement of the results of next year ’s electricity tariff review, the Secretary for the Environment Huang Jinxing pointed out that after reviewing the level of on-grid tariffs, considering economic incentives, and the overall impact of on-grid tariffs on electricity tariffs, they decided to maintain the on-grid tariffs at current levels next year. That is 3 to 5 Hong Kong dollars per kilowatt-hour.

Li & Fung Logistics said today (12th) that it has cooperated with the science park solar company "NEFIN" for 15 years. The fund was funded by NEFIN and the solar panels were laid on the roof of Li & Fung Center. Feng Logistics sharing. NEFIN Chief Executive Officer Lin Fengchao said that the project's power generation capacity is 134 kilowatts, and it can earn 1 kWh of electricity income. It is expected to generate 580,000 Hong Kong dollars per year. At the end of October this year, it has been dismissed from China Grid and earned on-grid electricity prices. Lin also pointed out that the system uses the highest fire protection design standards. It also collects data every day and uploads it to the cloud for analysis to help preventive management and maintenance.

Jay Lengel, senior vice president of operational excellence at Li & Fung Logistics, expressed the hope that the company could become more environmentally friendly, and that participating in the program was "the beginning of a green journey." Leanne Melnyk, vice president of sustainable development of the Feng Group, believes that if the climate change is indifferent, the cost is far higher than the current investment in solar projects, and profit is not the primary consideration. She also pointed out that last year's super typhoon mangosteen hit the port, and action at the local level must be taken to be responsible for the environment.

Must be lifted to the roof by crane

Jay Lengel said that the biggest difficulty of the project was that the building was more than 100 meters high, but the lift could not be used due to weight problems, and the materials had to be moved to the roof by crane, and the construction process was only about 60 days. He also said that Li & Fung Logistics will use the revenue it earns for other sustainable development projects of the company, such as buying electric vehicles for handling, building water saving systems, etc. Jay Lengel said that the company currently operates five warehouses in Hong Kong and will check whether these facilities are suitable for installing solar systems.
