The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) announced today the inclusion of the element of the Levantine Rose and the related practices and traditions of heritage within the list of intangible human heritage in the organization.

The organization said on its website that the Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, during its fourteenth meeting held in the Colombian capital, Bogota, included the Levantine rose and the related traditions and traditions included in the List of Intangible Human Heritage.

The cultivation of the rose flower is spread in the town of Al-Marah in the eastern Qalamoun countryside in Damascus countryside, where the harvest season begins in May and the crop is harvested along with a huge annual festival in which farmers and all activities in the region are distilled and the fragrant rose perfume is distilled and medical materials, syrups and jams are extracted.

For its part, the Syrian Trust for Development stated on its page on “Facebook” that thanks to the joint efforts of the Living Heritage Program in the Secretariat and in cooperation with the people of the town of Al-Marah and a number of governmental and non-governmental agencies, the Syrian Rose was registered as one of the Syrian cultural heritage elements on the representative list of human heritage in UNESCO .

Last year, Syria presented the file of the Syrian Rose for UNESCO, which defines and defines the traditional practices and trades associated with it in Al-Marah Village as one of the Syrian cultural heritage elements to be added to the representative list of the human heritage in the organization.

It is noteworthy that the total cultivated area in the Levantine Rose in Damascus countryside reached 265 hectares this year, producing about 35 tons of roses, which are among the most famous roses in the world.
