The Libyan National Army announced that it has established control over the main road in the Sa’idiyeh area and the headquarters of the Police Officers College in the vicinity of the Libyan capital, Tripoli.
The media quoted the "Military Information Division" of the Haftar Forces as saying that it had extended its control over the headquarters of the Police Officers College in Salah al-Din, as well as along the main road in the Sa`diyya area, up to the Togar area.
These developments come about two hours after the leader of the "Libyan National Army" Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar announced the launch of a "decisive battle" and the start of his forces' advance towards the heart of the Libyan capital.
There have been ongoing battles in the Libyan capital, Tripoli and its environs, since the fourth of last April, between the forces of Haftar and the other affiliated with the Libyan government of reconciliation led by Fayez al-Sarraj, which left thousands of dead and wounded, according to the World Health Organization, while the International Organization for Migration estimates the number of people displaced by armed clashes by tens of thousands.
The Libyan army spokesman, Major General Ahmed Al-Mismari, announced in early July that Tripoli "has become a center for the terrorist Brotherhood organization sponsored by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan," stressing that the Libyan army has sufficient evidence and information to condemn Turkey for its involvement in supporting terrorism in Tripoli.
