WASHINGTON - SANA: The US Senate unanimously adopted a resolution today that recognized that massacres and crimes have occurred

Washington-Sana

Today, the US Senate unanimously adopted a resolution recognizing that the massacres and crimes committed by the Ottomans against the Armenians were genocide, after the US House of Representatives officially recognized this by an overwhelming majority in a vote that raised the anger of the Turkish regime and the heir of the Ottomans.

"I am delighted with the adoption of this decision ... At a time when there are still survivors of the genocide, they can notice that the Senate recognizes what they suffered," Senator Bob Menendez was quoted as saying by AFP.

Republican allies of President Donald Trump have repeatedly blocked this decision in the Senate calling for the commemoration of the Armenian genocide and rejecting attempts to push the US government to deny that this genocide occurred, but no one opposed the text today after Menendez proposed it.

The US House of Representatives adopted the resolution on October 30th, by an overwhelming majority, which sparked the wrath of the Turkish regime, which is still evading the recognition of the crime of its forefathers or offering an official apology as a matter of restitution and in order to prevent a humanitarian tragedy of this magnitude estimated the number of its victims by more than 1.5 million people claiming that it was caused On the circumstances of the First World War, despite the United Nations affirming the massacres against the Armenians and their official recognition by many countries as "genocide" crimes.

It is noteworthy that the European Parliament and many European countries and the world and international organizations, institutions and personalities recognize the events that took place against the Armenians during the Ottomans as a "genocide".
