The Finance Committee of the Legislative Council met in two sessions today. During the morning meeting, members urged civil servants to raise pay. Democratic lawmakers demanded that the police be split up for independent review, which was strongly opposed by constitutional lawmakers.
In addition, in the additional documents submitted by the Security Bureau to the Finance Committee of the Legislative Council, from 2019 to 2020, the Police Force was allocated about 20.2 billion yuan under Subhead 000 (Operating Expenses) to pay the Police Force's salaries, allowances and other Operating expenses. In the past six months (June to November), the Police Force has received an average of about 11,000 monthly overtime work allowances for disciplined services, with related expenses totaling approximately $ 950 million and an average allowance of $ 86,000 per police officer.
People's Force Chen Zhiquan supported the request of Commissioner of Police Deng Bingqiang to attend the Finance Committee in the name of the Finance Committee. In response to questions raised by members of the Democratic Party, Hu Zhiwei, the chairman of the Democratic Party, also supported the motion, but Ge Hongfan of the DAB opposed it.
The afternoon session starts at 4 o'clock, and "Hong Kong 01" will broadcast live for you.
