(CNN) - The Judicial Commission of the House voted Thursday on the charges of political trial against President Donald Trump.
The first charge against Trump, who accuses him of abusing his power, was approved in the vote 23 to 17.
The vote was expected yesterday, but after 14 hours of debate, President Jerry Nadler ended the hearing without a vote.
The second charge, obstruction of Congress, was also approved 23 in favor and 17 against.
As the charges were approved, they will be sent to the House of Representatives for a vote next week that could make Trump the third president in US history to face a political trial.
The House has not yet set a specific date for when it could pick up and vote on the articles, but two Democratic leadership advisors said it could happen on Wednesday.
If the House of Representatives approves the articles, Trump will become the third president in the history of the United States to be dismissed.
Then, the Senate will conduct a trial to decide whether President Trump should be removed from office.
