"The fight goes on": The Barcasite opponent who promises not to stop after the elections

Although the results of the election have turned Barcasite into an accomplished fact, Steve Bray, who faces a daily demonstration against the move, is not going to stop. "I'll do anything," he said, wearing his 12-star hat, which became a symbol. In the victory speech, Johnson urged Bray to "push a sock into the megaphone and give everyone peace"

For the past two years, Steve Bray has become famous for the protests he is holding outside the Parliament building in Westminster, calling for "barking" at lawmakers, and disrupting live news reports with his EU proclamations.

Although Britain's departure from the EU appears to have become inevitable, after Prime Minister Boris Johnson won the last election, and pledged to "end with a brawl" in late January, the 50-year-old Welsh protester has no intention of stopping the protests.

"The fight goes on, of course," Bray told Reuters outside the Parliament building, wearing his usual uniform, which includes a hat of the EU flag and a large, common United Kingdom and EU flag on the back.

"I'm going to do everything I can, and I'm sure millions of other people will join me," Bray said. "As long as we are still in the EU there is hope, though the odds are against us. Rome was not built in one day," he explained.

Bray left his home in Port Talbot, South Wales in September 2017, and has been standing outside the Parliament building in Westminster every day since voting on the EU separation process. While both EU and anti-EU protesters protested regularly outside Parliament, Bray's call to "stop the barracks" behind the news teams has made him a familiar figure.

"As far as I'm concerned, Barcasit is a complete parody for our country, because it's like turkeys voting for Christmas," said Bray, also known as "Mr. Stop Barcasit."

The UK election results showed that Johnson's conservative party won 365 seats in parliament, the party's biggest win since 1987. When parliament dissolved a few weeks ago Bray stopped his protest. He also ran as a Liberal Democrat, who opposes the Barracks, and came in sixth out of seven candidates in Wales. The party registered a downfall when it received only 11 seats in parliament nationwide, with party leader Joe Swinson also losing her seat in parliament.

"We all lost," Bray said. "Not only did I lose, the whole of Britain lost, our nation lost. It's not good for any of us," Bray added in an interview interrupted by a Barracks supporter.

Steve Ray has become such a familiar figure that even Johnson chose to address him in his victory speech. He turned to him and said, "I respectfully say to our friend with the 12-star hat: 'It's time to push a sock to the megaphone and give everyone a little quiet.' Bray, for his part, replied to Johnson in a less-than-joking manner, saying that "My response to Boris Johnson is that when he stops lying and is being honest with the British people, I will put a sock in a megaphone." He added that "the man is unfit for public office. To let him be prime minister of our nation is a total disgrace."
