Today, the Damascus Governorate organized the “Old Damascus without Cars” event in an experiment aimed at obtaining digital data and indicators that show the extent of the positive impact of this project on the old city.

The event, which started at ten in the morning and continues until six in the evening, includes various social, artistic, cultural and recreational activities in tourist sites, planting jasmine in several places, and securing "Baxi" bikes and electric cars to transport citizens inside the city, along with a number of restaurants welcoming and welcoming.

In a statement to reporters, the director of the old city of Damascus, Eng. Mazen Farazli, pointed out that the goal of the event is to know the needs of the residents and visitors, achieve a balance between them, monitor problems and obstacles and overcome them, and work to make the old city of Damascus free of cars, indicating that alternative transportation has been provided for special cases, residents, visitors, and car garages for them. .

And Farzali explained that the old city's roads were not designed for such a large number of cars that enter it, which impedes cleaning and maintenance work due to the narrow alleys and the large number of cars parked.
