Protests continued in a number of Lebanese regions today to demand the speedy formation of a government and the accountability and prosecution of corrupt individuals.
The protests in the center of the capital Beirut today violated violent clashes between the Lebanese security forces charged with protecting the perimeter and entrances of the parliament, and a number of demonstrators in front of the entrances to Najma Square who tried to storm it.
The Lebanese National News Agency stated that "the protesters tried to enter the Najma Square to sit in front of the parliament after they had removed the iron barriers, but the security forces returned them to their place and there was tension in which tear gas was fired, as the demonstrators threw security forces with all the stones and iron columns provided to them." ”
The General Directorate of the Lebanese Internal Security Forces said in a statement that the riot police were attacked and throwing stones and firecrackers by some people and demanded the cessation of these attacks, otherwise the security forces will be forced to take additional, more aggressive measures.
In turn, the General Directorate of Civil Defense stated that its members had taken injured people to the hospital.
Clashes also took place between the security forces and demonstrators on the Ring bridge connecting to the Hamra road, and the civil defense elements transferred two elements of the riot police to the hospital for treatment after they were injured by stone throwing in the confrontations, and a number of protesters were arrested after the attack on the security forces that used tear gas to disperse them.
Several regions in Lebanon are witnessing sit-ins and road closures since the 17th of last October in protest against the living situation and the demand to form an effective government and hold the corrupt accountable.
