They took retirement for dead relatives for years. In one case, for 23 years, a child has collected the war of a dead parent. For this reason 37 people have been reported to the judicial authority by the financiers of the Provincial Command of Rome: continuing to receive monthly, after the death of the rightholders, the pension, social allowance, accompanying allowance or retirement "of war ", depending on the case, they would have caused a damage of 3 million for the funds of INPS and of the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
The Special Unit for Public Spending and Community Fraud Repression of the Guardia di Finanza, after having acquired the names of pensioners from INPS and the Ministry of the Economy, had started their monitoring "on the spot", crossing this information with that contained in the databases available, in order to verify the possible death of the entitled party and possible cases of perception of the emolument by third persons.
Following the in-depth investigations carried out "in the field", the Fiamme Gialle, with the collaboration of the local branches of the social security institute and the State Accounting Department of Rome, discovered the 37 cases of undue perception of social security and welfare benefits, denouncing the responsible, for various reasons, for crimes of undue receipt of public funds following false statements and aggravated fraud against the State.
In numerous cases, the judicial authority has ordered the seizure of the sums lying on the current accounts, up to the amount of the credit claimed, while the INPS and the State Accounting Office have immediately suspended the provision of the treatments. Among others, the positions of a woman who died in 1991, whose granddaughter, until 2017, had illicitly appropriated over 300,000 euros, as well as a professional who had not communicated the death of the parent in 1993, continued until 2016 to collect the father's "war" pension for over 267,000 euros from the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
