Central Election Commission rejected Sa'ar's claims • "The ban on TV broadcasting begins 60 days before the election, but the series will be broadcast 78 days before"

The Central Election Commission rejected Sunday's request by Knesset Member Gideon Sa'ar for two weeks to reject the series of "Benjamin Days" articles, which is expected to be broadcast this evening at the news company. In the petition, Sa'ar claimed that the series gives more than two hours of exposure to his rival Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who will face him in the primaries for the Likud party.

According to the Election Commission, Sa'ar based his petition on two laws that do not constitute grounds for disqualification. "The Propaganda Law," which Saar raised in the petition, states that "the Prohibition of Propaganda Laws on Television Propaganda Law begins 60 days before Election Day, not earlier." The series airs 78 days before the election, so according to the Election Commission, "the chair of the Central Election Commission does not have authority to discuss allegations of violation of the Second Authority Law."

In addition, the second law on which the petition is based also prohibits broadcasting "party propaganda with the exception of lawfully permitted propaganda propaganda," the authority of the chairman of the Central Election Commission for the issuance of limited restraining orders and has no authority to decide.

In the appeal filed by Saar this morning, the Knesset emphasized that broadcasting a four-episode series on the prime minister at the present time is unreasonable and seriously violates the principle of equality in elections, due to the much exposure Netanyahu will receive as a result of the series screening. Sa'ar also turned down the request to the CEO of news company Avi Weiss and denied it.

"Dedicating valuable broadcast hours while watching a record for articles that all deal with only one candidate, and every few days before such a fateful election campaign, is an unusual, bizarre and unacceptable event," added Attorney Asiao, who filed the petition.
