Last month, two-year-old toddler Arie Bogrov died in a kindergarten in Haifa after choking on a curtain that had been installed and wrapped around his neck. "We brought him there in the morning and now he's gone," his father said. "My husband was in Tel Aviv and went back to Haifa," said Natalia, Arya's mother. The couple's girlfriend said that "Natalia was hysterical and when her big son arrived home they told him he was lonely and his brother died. And he said 'But he was small, why he should have died'."
Following the death of the toddler, the Ministry of Labor and Welfare announced that he had closed the "Ludmilla Garden" nursery in the French Carmel neighborhood of Haifa. The head of the daycare department in the labor arm, Amir Medina, issued an immediate closure order for the residence indefinitely. The day care department was reported to be working in full cooperation with the Israeli police to investigate the case and the residence will not be operational until the investigation is complete.
In addition, four of the garden workers, including the principal, were sent for five days of house arrest. Another employee was given a restraining order and no contact. Parents of preschool children said "this is the best preschool in Haifa." The parents claimed to be called to pick up their children, but did not tell them what happened. The toddler lost consciousness after strangling a curtain. An MDA team called to the scene gave him medical treatment and evacuated him to Rambam Hospital where his death was determined.
