US Examinees: Don't Wait for Government with "Century Plan" | Israel Today

Political-political

US administration peacekeepers have been preparing for months to publish the peace plan, but have had to postpone it every time because of the re-election • Now the president's people are considering not waiting anymore • Trump: "This is the toughest agreement there is"

President Trump's peace team is expected to decide in the coming days whether to publish the "Century Plan," though Israel has not formed a government, or whether it will be shelved until after the US election.

Writing "The Century Plan" ended about a year ago. President Trump's peace team, led by his son-in-law Jared Kushner, initially decided to avoid publishing it altogether, wanting this not to be seen as an election intervention, and due to the assessment that the timing would elicit critical responses in Israel as well. Since the September election campaign, the White House has decided to wait for the political process to end in Israel, and to make a decision only when the process is over.

Now that Israel has begun a third election campaign that may also end in a draw, and when Trump's tenure remains less than a year, the top leadership will consider whether to post the plan anyway during an election period, or at least shelve it until the US presidential election.

Trump himself sounds like he has already given up on the prospects of bringing peace between Israel and the Palestinians. At the Israeli-American Conference (IAC) last week, he said he "loves deals, and I heard the agreement between Israel and the Palestinians is the hardest. But if Jared Kushner can't do it, then such an agreement can't be done."
